By 2035, the Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz will be transformed from a pure transit area into a lively city square with a variety of public facilities and uses. A new building for the Faculty of Law and a science building for Leipzig University are being constructed. The Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography is building a geography research institute with a public library. Around 300 apartments, a third of which are subsidized, complement the ensembles. The Museum of Natural History and Biodiversity will make new use of the former “Bowling-Treff”.
The education and market hall campus combines the Leipzig music school, the adult education center and a market hall. The Monument to German Freedom and Unity will commemorate Leipzig’s role in the Peaceful Revolution. An open dialog on current issues will be held in the “Forum Recht”. The connecting element on the square is the diverse green spaces of the “Ökotopia” park with its high quality of stay.
Sally Below advises the Leipzig City Planning Office on the development of an urban narrative and works with the client in workshops to develop a long-term communication concept with measures and tools for the long construction period.
