Interdisciplinary ideas competition and exhibition for the city of Munich

The proposal Sally Below made to the City of Munich as part of a call for entries was an experiment: OPEN SCAL – a competition for the submission of forward-looking ideas for Munich without any specifications in terms of theme or scale.

Fifty young, interdisciplinary teams applied. Seven entries were selected by a prominent jury for further work. The spectrum ranged from urban planning ideas and conversion strategies to projects that dealt with past and future utopias for Munich.

The selected teams continued to work on their ideas during a summer school, supported by experts and administrative staff. Their proposals were presented to the city council and partly further developed with the administration. An exhibition in Munich and at the DAZ in Berlin showed the work. Some of the ideas have become concrete projects.
