On the spot Dessau

A house for the urban community

Anyone arriving by regional train at Dessau main station has to decide: to the city centre or to the university and Bauhaus campus? The city spaces are separated by railway facilities. The VorOrt-Haus stands at the entrance to the city centre – as a space for collaborative work and the activation of urban society. The long vacant building was developed out of a student initiative.

VorOrt e.V. took over the former lazaretto from the city in 2016 on a leasehold basis after a long activation and coordination phase. As a board member, Sally Below helped develop the long-term strategy. The VorOrt building is still under construction, but already offers work spaces for students, offices for start-ups, spaces for the neighbourhood and studios for artists.

VorOrt is not just a name, but a programme. The VorOrt-Haus is a hinge between the city, Bauhaus and campus that creates connections and makes new forms of cooperation and work possible.
